A Trick of the Mind

On her way to the cottage in Southwold she’s newly inherited from her Aunty May, Ellie senses she is on the edge of something new. The life she’s always dreamed of living as a successful artist seems as though it’s about to begin. So excited is she that she barely notices when the car bumps against something in the road.

That evening Ellie hears a news flash on the radio. A man was seriously injured in a hit and run on the very road she was driving down. Then Ellie remembers the thump she heard. Could she have been responsible for putting a man in hospital? Unable to hold the doubts at bay, she decides to visit the victim to lay her mind to rest, little knowing that the consequences of this decision will change her life forever.

A Trick of the Mind will certainly keep your attention. It’s an atmospheric thriller, with some genuinely creepy moments as Ellie’s life and work starts to unravel.

Madhouse Family Blog says

A chilling read...As you progress through the novel, you find yourself inwardly screaming at Ellie to see the warning signs and not get sucked in, but you can also put yourself in her shoes and see how she feels that she has no choice but to stay in this tricky predicament of her own making. It's a skilfully woven plot that gives plenty of clues along the way so that you can try to piece things together, even when you're not entirely sure who is telling the truth most of the time.
